This year has been an extraordinary year for many people, especially for me
🦠 COVID-19 epidemic
The COVID-19 epidemic that broke out in January is still continuing today, and the panic and despair in the early stages of the epidemic are still vivid in our minds: January 20 Masks and Banlangen Shuanghuanglian were sold out across the country overnight, the Internet was completely occupied by negative epidemic topics, the number of infections soared like a rocket, there was a serious shortage of frontline protective equipment, members of the expert team were infected, Wuhan was locked down, the daughter on the balcony wearing pajamas and beating gongs to save her mother, the girl chasing the ambulance heartbroken and calling her mother, the desperate Ark Hospital, hiding at home and not daring to order takeout and eating self-heating rice for several weeks…
There have been too many incidents related to the epidemic, and several of them impressed me deeply: whistleblower Li Wenliang was reprimanded, the number of infected people was concealed, anti-epidemic materials donated to the Red Cross were given priority to government officials instead of front-line medical staff, #We Want Freedom of Speech# The topic was short-lived on Weibo, a young man read “The Origin of Political Order” in the bed of Ark Hospital, the country vigorously promoted traditional Chinese medicine preparations to “treat” pneumonia, companies were required to resume work on the first day without supplying masks, the five-one policy and the demonization of international students, patients’ privacy was exposed and exposed online…
Fortunately, the situation is improving. The domestic epidemic has been basically controlled. The Pfizer vaccine is being produced at full capacity and has been put into use in the United Kingdom and the United States. Everything will be fine before the summer of 2021.
🏝Animal Crossing
Animal Crossing was released on March 19. It is no exaggeration to say that the month I played Animal Crossing was my short 25 It was one of the happiest times in my life. Not only was the game itself great, but more importantly, it allowed me to meet a large group of interesting friends (for details, see “My Animal Crossing Diary”). I visited with a group of friends every day, exchanged gifts, wrote letters, fished together, watched meteor showers, showed off my new clothes, and exchanged kohlrabi. Let’s see which island has camel merchants and meteor showers, which island has moved cute little animals, which island has nice furniture to touch… If there is nothing new today, four or five people can play around a torch all night. When I am not online, I wander around the island aimlessly, talk to the little animals, and visit the little animals’ houses. Being used to the pressure of reality and the fast pace of life, I discover a completely different version of myself here.
Unfortunately, happy times are always short-lived, both because of the game and because of the players. After a month, the novelty faded away and everyone gradually returned to real life, leaving less and less time for Animal Crossing. I gradually stopped opening Animal Crossing, and gradually lost contact with many of my friends.
Although I know that it is impossible to go back to that time, there is no such thing as a feast that lasts forever, and I understand the truth, but I still can’t let it go, imagining that one day I will open Animal Crossing again, and the islanders and friends will still be there, and nothing has changed.
I don’t expect to encounter this kind of thing again. I just hope that I can face it more calmly next time.
🇬🇧 Study Abroad
July 12 On the morning of the same day, a terrible thing broke my two-month peaceful life. Two Ziroom agents took advantage of my sleep. With the authorization of Ziroom officials, they opened my door using the backdoor password given by Ziroom officials and invaded my bedroom. They called it a “security check.” Later, I tried my best to defend my rights through public opinion, administrative and judicial channels, but I encountered obstacles everywhere and encountered many magical things. Finally, I realized that no matter how hard I tried, this matter would not have a good ending, so after weighing the pros and cons, I gave up defending my rights and decided to immigrate.
Of course, it was not just the bedroom invasion and the obstacles in defending my rights that made me decide to immigrate. They were just a trigger. There are many reasons, but in the end they all point to the same thing: the rule of law.
It is the rule of law that can protect citizens’ homes from infringement, it is the rule of law that can protect workers from being 996 ICU, it is the rule of law that can protect the privacy of COVID-19 patients from spreading on the streets, it is the rule of law that can protect citizens from being arbitrarily punished for pocket crimes, and it is the rule of law that can protect citizens’ basic rights and freedoms.
The absence of the rule of law will lead to many problems. It is not only reflected in the inability to protect rights, but also in the scarce legal awareness and mutual respect among the people, which cannot be easily changed due to national conditions. Luo Xiang once said in a program that the formation of the rule of law: “It is very important. In terms of degree, the rule of law is a process that combines top-down and bottom-up. The rule of law first emphasizes that power itself must be restrained, and then in the context of such a restraint, others will gradually be willing to restrain themselves. It is a two-way process, and it cannot be a one-way process.”
I know very well what immigration means. It will turn my years of accumulation into sunk costs in economics, quickly consume all the savings I have accumulated over many years of work, force me to change many hobbies and living habits, and make me lose most of my friends and connections. I am not even sure it is the right choice. However, the first season of “Attack on Titan” also tells us: “If you can’t give up something, you can’t change the status quo.” Now is the moment that requires courage.
The plan is as follows: Study in the UK (→ Work in the UK)? → Work in Canada → Canadian Green Card → Canadian naturalization, which can be completed as soon as 2029
Leave a space here for answers in 2024: Is the Maple Leaf Card still going well?
- smooth
So far everything is going smoothly. Except for some detours in the early planning, preparing to study abroad is much easier than I thought. I have submitted applications to six universities and are waiting for offers; At this time next year, we should spend Christmas happily somewhere in the UK.
To a certain extent, I am glad that this happened. Fortunately, it happened at the age of 25 instead of 35. It allowed me to get out of the dangerous comfort zone, seek reflection and change, and become stronger. As the “Principles” I recently read said: “Sometimes, terrible things happen to us. It can destroy us, or it can make us better, depending on how we deal with them.” If I hadn’t encountered this incident, I might have been addicted to my current comfort zone, feeling that the iron fist would never hit me, and wrote like the previous year-end summary: Ah, this year is another year of accomplishing nothing and having no ideas, plus a little bit of Versailles-style moaning ([“What I Did in 2019”] (/2019/), [“2018 Year-End Summary”] (/2018/)), until in the end I can’t change the status quo.
🗓 Bullet Journal
Without my comfort zone, my life has become more organized. I started writing bullet journals, regularly summarizing what I have done and making plans for the next cycle. It probably looks like this:

In the upper right corner of the weekly note, there will be written what needs to be done this week, and then there is the daily To Do List and Notes, and then there is a Habit Tracker table to quantify the daily status. At the end of each week, write a summary of the week and what to do next week at the beginning; write a monthly summary at the end of each month.
Quantifying myself in a timely manner is really a good way to introspect, especially for people like me with poor memory. In addition to giving me a clearer understanding and reflection of myself, it also helped me develop some good habits and change some bad habits through daily reminders and data quantification.
By doing these things, I also learned a truth: to do something well or develop a habit, the most important thing is to find a strong enough driving force from your heart, and don’t forget it. Taking exercise as an example, the driving force of “improving the deteriorating health condition and reducing the risk of sudden death” is much more useful than “I want to lose weight”, which is likely to fail.

🎉 Acknowledgments
This year is a year that I am grateful for everyone’s care
Thank you Faxiao for your unconditional support of such a costly immigration decision that is full of selfishness and uncertainty. I know very well how much sacrifice this support requires. I will not take it for granted. I will work hard with this trust.
Thanks to Fa Xiao for teaching me some things this year: empathy, self-awareness, carpe diem and a positive attitude towards life. In many aspects, I am not good enough and I am still learning slowly.
Thanks to Henry for his 360-degree all-round help in my study abroad. It not only provided crucial help in my early planning and saved me a lot of detours, but also provided a lot of help in my subsequent preparations for studying abroad. It also helped solve many worries, such as the maintenance of RSSHub and the adoption of yogurt next year.
Thanks to Heifan, Fallenhh, and Uucky for proactively providing a lot of help and a lot of useful information when I encountered difficulties in preparing my study abroad documents, which also saved me a lot of detours.
Thanks to a lost friend who wishes to remain anonymous for cherishing and trusting our friendship.
Thank you for helping and accompanying me through a perfect National Day holiday
Thanks to my friends who played Animal Crossing with me and spent the happiest time with me.
Thank you to everyone who spoke out about the Ziru incident, for shining a light on me in my darkest moment.
In 2021, at this moment when fate pushes me to be brave, I hope I can be as brave as I imagined, moving forward towards my goal, moving forward
