Fa Xiao feels that he has experienced huge changes this year. He moved from Scotland to Singapore, from being unmarried to being married, and from a family of two to a family of three. But I think it was all expected, so it feels pretty stable.

The items around you can best reflect a person’s status, so just like 2022, start with the best of the year

🏆 Best of the Year

🍿 Film and Television

Watched 28 anime, 12 TV series and 8 movies: https://movie.douban.com/people/62759792/collect?mode=list

Last year, there were 19 anime, 18 TV series and 6 movies. The two-dimensional content has increased significantly.

DIY annual drama: “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba: Forging Village Chapter”

image

Although the pace of several episodes is too slow, the show is full of ignition points and can make people cry. Especially in the end, the plot that was thought to be sadistic is beautifully turned into a sweet ending, which makes people feel excited and unable to control themselves.

Last year’s best was “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba: Yugok Arc”, this year it’s “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba: Forged Village Arc”, and we can already predict that next year will be “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba: Hashira Training Arc”, I hope it can stay that way.

In addition, there are also “The Great Demon Realm of Heaven”, “Spy’s House”, “[The Child I Pushed]” (the first episode), “Dedicate Explosion to a Beautiful World!” 》Also like it very much

DIY TV series of the year: “The Last of Us Season 1”

image

It’s very faithful to the game, and better than the game. The protagonist also fits the character very well. It’s a perfect season. HBO is so strong.

📚 Books

album_temp_WeRead_2023_Year_In_Review_11704021416

22 books I read this year:

  • “The Courage to Be Disliked”
  • “Lychees from Chang’an”
  • “Those Weird and Worrying Questions”
  • “Does God Play Dice”
  • “Human Extinction”
  • “From the New World” (two books)
  • “Hymn to Leibovitz”
  • “Feeding Humanity”
  • “Chao Wen Dao”
  • “The Biography of Elon Musk”
  • “Fall of Giants” (three books)
  • “Winter of the World” (three books)
  • “Jian Shang” (currently reading)
  • “The Selfish Gene” (currently reading)
  • “I feel relieved when I think that 95% of the problems are still left for mankind” (currently reading)
  • “Encyclopedia of Cat Family Medicine” (currently reading)
  • “A Brief History of the Future” (currently reading)

Last year, I read 9 books. I didn’t expect to read so many this year. Most of them were due to travel and Boox Leaf 3.

DIY Book of the Year: “Human Extinction”

image

I almost missed it due to the strange title and cover. It is the most suspenseful, bloody, and imaginative book I have ever read. The author unfolds three seemingly unrelated lines separately, and finally merges them perfectly to reveal the biggest conspiracy.

If one day Homo sapiens is no longer the smartest species on earth, Homo sapiens will definitely reveal his cruel jungle nature without hesitation. It may not necessarily be because of the emergence of new superhuman species as hypothesized in the book. The technological explosion of AI may make this day come soon.

I really look forward to being made into a TV series one day

Ranked second is “Does God Play Dice”

I read a lot of incredible physical knowledge and conjectures, such as space and time cannot be divided infinitely, they are not continuous; a world in which all observers die is meaningless, so observers will only live forever, unable to commit suicide or die, and everyone will have quantum immortality; the world is uncertain, the background of the world is not the law of causality but probability, and God plays dice. It’s more magical than science fiction

Ranked third is “Fall of Giants”

The first book in the Century Trilogy is the kind of book that is difficult to read at the beginning, but once you get into it, you can’t get out of it. I learned a lot about European history and saw the changes of the times.

🕹️ Good stuff

DIY Good Thing of the Year: Boox Leaf 3

image

This is my first time using an e-paper book. The battery life is long enough and the refresh speed is fast. The built-in ink screen version of WeChat reading allows me to read a lot more books. The disadvantage is that it hurts my little finger to hold it for a long time. Fortunately, I bought Randy’s recommended mobile phone airbag holder to solve the problem.

There are some other little things worth recommending

Followcat cat collar

image

You can use an AirTag shell to install the AirTag to locate the cat. It can not only prevent the cat from getting lost when going out, but also makes it easier to find when you don’t know where it is hidden at home.

doctor glasses

IMG_5716

It costs thousands of yuan to buy glasses offline. I have always felt that glasses are very precious items that need to be carefully protected. However, I found that similar Zeiss lenses and frames are only more than 200 online. The price difference is exaggerated, and I can’t feel any difference in actual use.

Sony ZV1 M2 Twitter

image

Switching from the first generation ZV1 to the second generation, although the picture quality has not been upgraded, many pain points have been solved, and the user experience has been greatly improved, including a new version of the menu that humans can use, an 18mm focal length more suitable for vlogging, a built-in directional microphone, a physical button for switching video and photography, USB-C, etc.

👩🏻‍💻 Application

DIY App of the Year: Arc

image

Once you use the vertical tab bar and workspace, you can’t go back. Moreover, it’s not just about turning the tab bar vertically. Many of the interaction details are quite thoughtful.

Also share some of your favorite apps that you are using

  • Mail client: Mimestream
  • Browser: Arc
  • Command line: Warp
  • Docker management: OrbStack
  • Time tracking: Toggl Track

🎮 Games

DIY Game of the Year: The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

🧸 life

🏡 Food and accommodation

In November, I moved from barren Scotland to Singapore, where life is convenient. The quality of life is still much higher.

  • Food: Compared to the UK, Singapore is a paradise. Finally, there are cheap and delicious takeaways and restaurants.
  • Accommodation: Renting is more expensive and smaller, but it has a swimming pool, a gym, and a good location, which is a bit of comfort.

🛫 Travel

I sprained my leg while skiing in December last year, so I didn’t go anywhere for the past few months.

  1. Going hiking in Lochgelly with Harry in May Twitter

Harry and I were so tired that we crawled on the ground carrying three large buckets of water, and we were walking as fast as we could.

  1. Went to Türkiye with Doutou Twitter Twitter Twitter Twitter Twitter Twitter Twitter

There are a lot of fun things to do in the scenic area, such as self-driving on mountain roads, swimming, sea jumping, skydiving, horseback riding, hot air ballooning, and sunbathing. The scenery of the sea and hot air ballooning is also very beautiful, but the price is very impressive. The prices of attractions are very high, which will rip off tourists. Leaving the scenic area is very barren.

After soaking in the water for a few days with a swimming ring, I almost learned to swim.

  1. Harry took me to visit the amazing fossil shop and surgical museum in Edinburgh

The Surgery Museum displays piles of corpses and various body parts soaked in formalin, which is fascinating to watch.

The roasted marshmallows are crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside, and the crispy pork made by Harry is also super delicious.

  1. Went to France, Germany, Austria, Hungary, Czech Republic in September

I’ve done everything I need to do, but I’m short on time.

  1. In October, I went to Chengdu, Chongqing, Zhengzhou, Urumqi, and Shanghai

I met Tyzual and Qixia Smile in Chengdu, went to see giant pandas, ate a lot in Chongqing, and ate mutton with skin sprouts in Urumqi

  1. Went to Hong Kong in November

Hong Kong Fintech Week met many colleagues and gained a lot of knowledge. It was also the first time for the co-founders of the company that had been established for more than two years to reunite.

🤼‍♀️ Social

Not only did I go to a lot of places this year, I also met a lot of friends.

Harry, thick but not thick, Tyzual,七夏笑,Peanut,[ch](https:// www.chen9.info/), Tony, Bruce, Anni, Atlas, birdring, Dmoo, Jeff, Joshua, Kate, Maggie, Usagi, Yingzi, birdring, yingzi, most of them are colleagues, and it is not easy to meet each other if they work remotely.

🐱 Family

I went back to my hometown to get married. The process was very tiring, but it was all worth it when I saw my little girl dressed up in a wedding dress Twitter

As soon as I returned to China, I reunited with Yogurt and even came to Singapore together Twitter

The most frequently asked question is “After being separated for more than two years, does Yogurt still know you?” Although I will never know the answer, judging from the degree of clinginess, I tend to know you.

🏊 Skills

Swimming

I have taken swimming lessons several times since elementary school and in college, but I have never learned how to do it.

As mentioned above, when I traveled to Turkey this year, I wore a swimming ring and soaked in the sea for a few days. I overcame my fear of swimming. I probably learned the freestyle posture but I couldn’t breathe.

After arriving in Singapore, I soaked in the swimming pool in the community for a few weeks and learned it completely. Now I go swimming with my child every day. The exercise is strong enough and the water is cool. It has become my favorite sport. I feel that I missed a lot of fun before.

Podcast

In order to promote xLog, I accepted the invitation of Web Worker to record my first podcast. The anchors Xin Bao, Liu Wei, and Xiao Baicai were all very professional. The process was surprisingly smooth and there were no interruptions.

But as a senior social worker, although the first time went well, it may be difficult to muster the courage to do it the next time.

Play mahjong and beat eggs

I went to play mahjong and egg-beating with Fa Xiaoge once, and I learned these two games, but I had to talk, so I didn’t play them again.

🌌 Impressive daily life

A well-designed DIY trap for your birthday

Birthday blessings from black brother st

Wearing a kilt to take wedding photos at Fa Primary School

Spending Christmas in Singapore

I watched the New Year’s Eve fireworks show in Singapore. It seemed like it was my first time to see such a grand fireworks show. The biggest one I’ve seen before was from Disneyland.

I also accompanied Faxiao to her first concert and her first time catching dolls.

🪄 Life Management

It’s almost the same as last year. I mainly use this life recording system based on Obsidian. The structure of the diary is now like this

What happened that day, what’s in progress, schedule, Franklin’s Virtues Chart

image

In addition, I use TickTick’s Habit to record how each OKR goal is completed every day and week, and use Toggl Track to record the time spent doing each thing. It is much more convenient than the previous all-in-one in Obsidian.

Contributions are almost reaching their peak in 2019

contributions

It’s another year without new projects. In the middle and early stages of this year, we still focused on xLog. Later, we also did some work on RSSHub and RSSHub Radar, and prepared for some changes in the company in 2024.

xLog is being developed in full swing (Related Twitter list) and successfully held 10,000 Knife’s creator incentive activities have attracted a large number of outstanding creators. At most, more than a dozen community developers every week contribute code to improve xLog and complete countless Features. There are now more than 3k creators who have published more than 26k high-quality content on it

RSSHub has restructured its documentation to make it easier to maintain, using English as the priority language; Plasmo has completely rewritten RSSHub Radar with a more modern architecture, making it better-looking, more stable and easier to maintain, and can be automatically published to major app stores. Currently, the official RSSHub instance hosts more than 300 million requests per month, docker has more than 15 million downloads, and RSSHub Radar has almost 90,000 weekly active users.
